12 changes in IRCTC rules you must know.

IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) was launched in 2002. When IRCTC launched only 29 tickets are booked on first day, but today more than 13 lakhs tickets are booked per day on IRCTC's online ticket booking website www.irctc.co.in

To avoid misuse of IRCTC ticket booking service and for convenience of nearly 2 crore people who are traveling in Indian railways daily Indian Railways announced new guidelines for travelers.

These are as follows:-

  1. A traveller is allowed to booked ticket in 120 day advance and day of travel is not counted in120 day period.
  2. One user can have only one login user session at a time means a user can login from one device once. Single page or quick book service are not available from 8 am and 12 noon.
  3. New security feature is added i.e. to answer a security question after  filling up  personal information like user name, email, mobile number, check box.
  4. Authorized travel agents cannot book tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes after online reservation opens.Agents are allowed to book tickets between 8 am to 8.30 am, 10 am to 10.30 am and 11 am to 11.30 am.
  5. Now standard time to fill up passenger details is 25 seconds. Time for filling captcha at passenger details and payment page is now 5 seconds.
  6. Payment need to be made within 10 seconds. (OTP) One time Password system has been made mandatory for payments through net banking for all banks and users.
  7. A user can book 6 tickets  in a month from a single user ID. If the user verified his/her Aadhaar, then he/she can book 12 tickets in a month.
  8. One person can book only two tickets during the opening hours between 8am and 10 am.
  9. Now tatkal tickets can be booked one day before the travel. Online berth reservation starts at 10 am for air-conditioned (AC) coaches and at 11 am for sleeper bogies.
  10. A user can claim complete refund of train fare and tatkal charges only if train fails to depart with in three hours of its scheduled departure time.  
  11. A passenger can  also claim a full refund if the train’s route has been diverted and passenger doesn’t want to travel on that route.
  12. A passenger can also claim a full refund if she/he has been shifted to a lower class than what the ticket was booked for provided he/she doesn’t want to travel in the changed class. But, if a passenger is willing to travel in the lower class, he/she will be paid back the difference.
