Three years ago Government had launched the UMANG app to make a wide range of services available on a mobile platform. I am using this app for the last 2.5 years and found it very useful. There are so many new service integrations and changes in the app that make it easier to use. Recently UMANG’s international version was launched for the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, UAE, Netherlands, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand. Apart from the app it also provides the web interface. So let us discuss some of the main features of this UMANG app.

UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) is created by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) to drive Mobile Governance in India. UMANG offers a common interface for all Indian Citizens to obtain pan India e-Gov services ranging from Central to Local Government bodies and other citizen-centric services. It provides the following features:

All your documents in one place:
You can access all your documents from DigiLocker. These documents can be fetched from different departments in your DigiLocker like Aadhaar Card, Driving License, Registration of Vehicles. Apart from these digital documents, you can also upload your documents in DigiLocker and can access them using the UMANG app. It is the most convenient and secure way to keep all your documents. We can use these digital documents for any verification like DL or RC to traffic police, as the government has allowed showing the digital documents and DigiLocker documents are now valid.

All services at one place:
UMANG app provides a wide range of Government services for different peoples like the farmer, Women and child, youth, student, and pensioner, etc. It provides services from different departments like the Department of Youth, Culture Scheme, Nyaya Bandhu, etc. It also provides access to various flagship schemes like Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Jan Dhan Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, etc. As of now, there are a total of 194 departments of which 93 belong to central and 101 state departments. There is a total of 2084 services in which 392 belong to central, 489 as State, and 1203 as Utility services.

Various categories to choose from:
It shows different categories like farmers, students, health, police, transport, social security, etc, which makes it very easy to fetch what you are looking for. For example, by choosing social security we can get access to different services like Atal Pension Yojana, EPFO, NPS, Jeevan Pramaan, etc.

Same way if you go inside the student's category then you can access different services like CBSE, AICTE, DBT, CSIS, NIELIT, National Scholarship Portal, UGC Scholarship, etc. So this way you just pick the right category and access a whole lot of services that belong to the category.

State Filter for Services:
It also provides a tab for state selection and based on your selection, it will show all the services provided by the state. That way it is very easy to fetch the services from your state.

DigiLocker Access:
Initially, we had to do login into DigiLocker from the UMANG app, every time we want to access the DigiLocker files but now you can seamlessly access your DigiLocker files in the UMANG app itself. That makes it more accessible and convenient to fetch any document from DigiLocker.

I have mentioned some of the main features of the UMANG app but it contains a whole lot of features and surprisingly you can easily fetch your documents from different departments easily and securely. We all know how painful it was to get anything done from any Government department in India. But after using this app you will find that things are changing and now you can access Government services using a mobile app.
