AI to empower agriculture, healthcare and education: RAISE 2020

On 5 October 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Accountable AI for Social Empowerment 2020 (RAISE 2020), supported by the Government of India along with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and NITI Aayog.

RAISE 2020, a mega virtual conference on artificial intelligence was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and he spoke about how technology would empower different industries. 

The four-day interactive event seeks to bring together leading voices from around the world to share ideas and develop a roadmap for using artificial intelligence in fields such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and smart mobility, among other industries, for social development, inclusion, and empowerment. 

Prime Minister said that "Artificial intelligence is a tribute to the intelligent strength of humanity. AI is an emerging technology, and the teamwork of AI with humans can do wonders for our planet."  He has also wished for India to become a global hub for artificial intelligence.

He also claimed that it is the mutual duty of society at large to ensure the maintenance of faith in artificial intelligence and the application of AI for the greater public benefit. The Prime Minister wanted India to become a global Artificial Intelligence center and hoped that in the future many more Indians would start working on this. He said the commitment to this purpose is guided by key values of coordination, confidence, partnership, transparency, and inclusivity.

Several other prominent personalities chaired the case, including Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister, Law & Justice, Telecom, Electronics & Information Technology; Dr. Arvind Krishna, CEO, IBM; Amitabh Kant, CEO, Niti Aayog; Mukesh Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Industries; and Ajay Sawhney Secretary  MeitY.

As India is exceptional in terms of language, culture, and growth problems, Amitabh Kant, CEO, Niti Aayog, said that it is the ideal destination and 'garage' for the growth of technologies that can solve global challenges. The world's sustainable growth and development are intricately related to using AI awareness to foster social empowerment. India is ideally positioned to take advantage of the AI revolution, with more than 600 million internet users, he added.
